Demon

During his first inaugural address, Franklin D. Roosevelt said that the "only thing we have to fear is fear itself." In his novel, The Alchemist, Paulo Coelho wants us to tell our hearts "that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself." How right they both were! How many times have we stopped ourselves from doing something because of fear? Many, many times, I know. Can you imagine if we did not do anything because we were afraid? Imagine the things we would be missing... the what could have beens...

I'm not immune to fear. Deep, strong, crippling... I feel it; maybe more intensely than a lot of people. But for the life of me, I can't let it stop me. I cannot bear the what ifs, the regrets I might have in the future if I give in. So I'm going to hold on. And even if I have to eat dust, I will. Because this demon called fear--I just can't let it win.

  1. This is so true. I let go of potential love just because of fear. I let fear become a hurdle in my studies. I let all kinds of fear come in between me and my friends and I wear a mask just to hide these fears. Roosevelt was right, if there is something one should fear, it's fear itself. Many times you can't do things because of fear.
