Ever since I saw the movies and then read the books, I have loved The Lord of the Rings. In fact, maybe love is not even a strong enough term. I am obsessed with it. I love everything about it. It makes me happy. I've read the books, seen the movies... I even play the online game! I want to visit New Zealand even more, because, well... it's Middle Earth!
And how do you fly to Middle Earth? On Air New Zealand, course! Check out this safety video they just came out with for the new The Hobbit movie (prequel to the LoTR trilogy) coming out next month. It is absolutely brilliant, imho. This is how safety videos should be. I can't get over it, really.
By now, most of of you probably know how much I love perfumes. I wrote an entry last year about how my current obsession with perfumes started, and ever since then, my love affair with scents has been going strong. Lately, I've also been noticing something about perfumes other than their scent--their commercials. I truly consider perfumery an art. Now, I consider perfume commercials another art form as well. Usually, there are no conversations on these commercials. They focus on sounds and imagery. But they get the message across, and never fail to take me to another place. They are quite magical to watch. Check out some of my favorites below:
Kenzo Amour by Kenzo Starring: Olga Kurylenko Why I Like It: It's exotic and perfectly showcases the uniqueness of Asia, and the song is beautiful
Aqva Pour Homme by Bvlgari Starring: Oriol Elcacho Why I Like It: It's not the model, believe it or not. Hahaha. I love the ocean, how the perfume bottle rises up, the sound effects... the voice over (!), and this scent is amazing
Covet by Sarah Jessica Parker Starring: Sarah Jessica Parker Why I Like It: It's entertaining!
Flora by Gucci Starring: Abbey Lee Kershaw Why I Like It: It feels surreal
Shalimar by Guerlain Starring: Natalia Vodianova Why I Like It: Rolling around in bed--my favorite hobby. Enough said! Hahaha
Perhaps, it is just fitting that what could be the most loved perfume commercial is for one of the world's most popular fragrances--Chanel N°5. Created by the critically acclaimed film maker Baz Luhrmann, and starring Nicole Kidman and Rodrigo Santoro, it is one beautiful masterpiece.
I love the music of the 80s. I grew up to the songs of this decade, and I am constantly amazed at how the songs of this time are able to express the feelings I cannot put into words...
I am convinced this is the theme song of my life:
This is one song I really like:
And this is for the person who makes me smile so much and loves 80s music as much as I do. You know who you are... RIGHT? :)
We all know Nickelback--we've heard their songs. But have you listened to their lyrics closely? I've only done so recently, and since then, I got totally hooked. Rock has always been one of my favorite music genres and I love how, in Nickelback, I am able to find a rock band that's able to integrate meaningful aspects of life into their music.
Here are some of my favorite lyrics:
And as we lie beneath the stars We realize how small we are If they could love like you and me Imagine what the world could be If everyone cared and nobody cried If everyone loved and nobody lied If everyone shared and swallowed their pride Then we'd see the day when nobody died
-- From If Everyone Cared
My best friend gave me the best advice He said each day's a gift and not a given right Leave no stone unturned, leave your fears behind And try to take the path less traveled by That first step you take is the longest stride
-- From If Today Was Your Last Day
I don't know about you, but their songs certainly make me ponder about my life and the world we live in. They just have that effect on me. Aside from the lyrics, I love their sound as well. I have a Nickelback playlist on my iPod, and it gets me through my cardio at the gym. No more Chris Brown for me nowadays!
My absolute favorite among their songs right now would be Never Gonna Be Alone. I think it's beautiful--I just can't get it out of my mind!
