Thank You, Gibo

Wednesday, May 12, 2010 Posted by Mary , , No comments

To my dismay, Gilberto "Gibo" Teodoro, Jr. did not win the presidency of the Philippines. It's disheartening because I thought the Philippines was ready to get rid of old names in politics; but apparently not. Looking at the current results on the bid for presidency and the senate, I can almost imagine the people who will be running for president in 2016--among them Jinggoy Estrada and Bong Bong Marcos. What a scary thought! And the people will support them, for sure. Because as proven in this year's elections, Filipinos still use their sentiments over their intellect when choosing their leaders. Just when I had conjured up hope for the future of the Philippines with the inspiration brought by Gibo's platform and positive campaigning, it is taken away again.

Nevertheless, thank you, Gibo, for giving hope to the greenies and to the youth of this country. Thank you for showing us that we will achieve nothing by division, and that we have to try to fight for our country no matter what the outcome. It is because of your positive example that I am inspired to become a better citizen of the Philippines.

Why Gibo?

I am not registered to vote in next week's elections. I did not care about the elections before and took registering for granted. Boy, do I regret that now, as I will be unable to vote for a person who I believe will bring the change the Philippines badly needs.

But just because I cannot vote does not mean I cannot support. That's why I'm imploring all of you to think and make the right decision on May 10. Please do not base your decision on popularity or ancestry. Weigh everything and vote for the right person. You may say that change is impossible and all our presidentiables are the same--all talk, no action. Believe though, that this year, we have a candidate who is not like the others. The Philippines would be making a huge mistake by not making him the next president.

The only candidate respected by both the administration and the opposition alike, Gilberto "Gibo" Teodoro, Jr., is my president. Please make him yours, as well. Read why the silent majority supports him here and here, and believe.

Make Me Understand

Friday, April 30, 2010 Posted by Mary , 5 comments
A lot of people are supporting Noynoy Aquino for Philippine President in the upcoming May 10 elections. Among them are a lot of friends; people I respect and look up to. But for the life of me, I really cannot understand why such intelligent people would want to vote for Noynoy.

Can someone please tell me why? Make me understand why Noynoy would make a good president. I seriously would like to know the answer.

WTF?!?

I know I said I don't care, but damn it all! Fernando Poe, Jr. is leading in the damned election counting!

Why are Filipinos so stupid? We're said to value education, but in reality, we're ignoramuses with deficient memories! How long ago was it that an actor, college drop-out of a president was removed from office? Not even four years ago! And now FPJ is leading! Damn you, people! I do not want--I don't think I can take it--it is just far too embarrassing to have a high school drop out for a president! Please God!!!

[ADD-ON]
The nationwide exit poll tally made by the SWS [Social Weather Stations], however, showed Mrs. Arroyo getting the highest voting percentage in Central Visayas or Region 7 with 74.35 percent while Poe settled for only 11.97 percent.

Thank God people from my part of the country still apparently use their heads.

Philippine Presidential Elections

Monday, May 10, 2004 Posted by Mary , No comments
Three years ago, during the last elections, I couldn't vote because it was also held in May and I would only turn 18 on November that year. This year, I couldn't vote again because I'm here in Japan. Hmmm. Maybe I'm not meant to vote in my country's elections. (Who knows where I'll be in the next 3 years?) >.<

The presidentiables: Fernando Poe, Jr., Panfilo Lacson and Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Anyway, today was election day in the Philippines. The incumbent president, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is running again even though ordinarily, a president is only allowed to have one term in office. Arroyo is different, because she wasn't elected during the last elections. She became the president because of a people power revolution--the second time in the country that a president was ousted in just over a decade.

Her biggest opponent is popular action star Fernando Poe, Jr. An actor, a school drop-out (high school, college, whatever, I don't know), and no experience in politics. He is a close friend of the former Pres. Joseph "Erap" Estrada who was replaced by Arroyo because of corruption charges, and is apparently backed by comrades of the former dictator Ferdinand Marcos (this I heard on AFN, here in Japan--see how popular/notorious we are?). If he wins, hmmm. I don't know what's going to happen, and frankly, I don't care anymore.

My mother called me today and we talked for a bit about the elections. She said it was a tight race, and expressed her concerns if Poe would win. My reaction was: it doesn't matter. If he wins, and the people find out they don't like him (anymore), I'm sure there's gonna be another people-power revolution at EDSA again. But really, Philippine politics is just going in one direction, and that is DOWN. No matter how good that person is who comes to office, I doubt if he/she can make a difference. There are just too many obstacles and people just wanna pull you down if you're on top. At the end of the day, all I can say is: I don't care who wins anymore, it's hopeless. One thing is sure though, if Bush was the president of the Philippines, I bet he would already have been replaced ages ago. LOL. ^^;

On another note, today as I was on the train, I saw a middle-aged Japanese man rise from his seat on the train and offer it to an older Japanese woman. Wow. That was amazing. I finally saw it. You can't believe how happy I was. LOL.
